Today brings another summer to an end here at Ballet Theatre of Maryland. As our dancers arrive for the first company class of the season this morning, veterans and newcomers alike will hone their technique as they prepare for a busy rehearsal day.
Although we're happy to get back into the studio, we're already reminiscing about everything we did this summer. Today, I've collected just a few of the things we've been up to!
Read on to hear about where we've been, what we've been dancing, and what production we're excited to bring to the Maryland Renaissance Festival this weekend. To make BTM part of your day in Revel Grove, tickets are available at Rennfest.com.
Big Adventures
This summer saw many of our dancers taking big steps (both physically ad metaphorically) and making memories.
Victoria Sanzotera
Principal dancer Victoria Sanzotera (née Siracusa) got married this summer. Congratulations to Victoria and Skyler!

Rachael Spicer
Corps de ballet dancer Rachael Spicer visited Zion National Park in Nevada. While she was there, she hiked Angel's Landing.

Alyssa Nichols
After attending our five-week summer intensive, apprentice dancer Alyssa Nichols visited New York City. Here, she's pictured at the Broadway show Heathers.

Cindy Case
My husband and I traveled to Duluth, MN, to see former company dancer Madison Sweeney get married! A few hours before we snapped this selfie, we found an amazing pair of elephant earrings in an antique shop. If you look closely, you'll see that they became an essential part of the look.

Performing Near and Far
Although many dancers spent the summer traveling, working other jobs, and visiting families--activities that take a back seat when we're focused on our rehearsal schedule--others dove into summer performance opportunities.
Sarah Jung
Soloist dancer Sarah Jung performed the role of Paquita as an alumnus in her school's gala. It was the 25th Anniversary of the South Carolina Governor's School!

Isaac Martinez, Lauren Martinez, Brenna Mazzara, and Alyssa Hyman
As part of the Maryland Municipal League's summer conference, principal dancers Lauren Martinez and Isaac Martinez, soloist dancer Brenna Mazzara, and corps de ballet dancer Alyssa Hyman performed excerpts from Swan Lake.

While at the conference, they also performed Isaac's original work, "Illusioni e Risoluzioni". This piece, with music by Mozart and Bach, will return for Ballet in the Garden at Hammond-Harwood House.
Summer Intensive Dancers
As we talked about earlier this summer, the Advanced dancers of our summer intensive were busy working with our Artistic Director, Nicole Kelsch, on our new Nutcracker.

Workshopping the Snow scene with Nicole for her new production was a unique experience for these young dancers. Earlier this summer, I sat down with Nicole and company apprentice Amber Sanders to get the inside scoop.

To learn more about our upcoming Annapolis-themed Nutcracker, read the blog post or visit the Creating An Annapolis Nutcracker page.
This Weekend! Catch Macbeth at the Maryland Renaissance Festival
One of the yearly traditions at BTM is starting the season with performances for the Maryland Renaissance Festival. This year, you can catch us in Roman Mykyta's one-act production of Macbeth.

Although a few of the more superstitious dancers may refuse to refer to "The Scottish Play" by name once we get to the theater, it's a production we're looking forward to returning to. We love to perform, so it's exciting to jump back in front of an audience right away.
Make BTM part of your visit to Revel Grove by joining us this weekend at the Globe Theatre! All shows start at 10:30.
