Emery Newton
Apprentice
As a young child of parents living abroad, Emery Newton took her first ballet steps under the direction of Bolshoi dancers in Moscow, Russia. She later began formal, full-time ballet training at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet under the direction of Darla Hoover. During her training, Emery performed works by George Balanchine, including The Nutcracker (Tea, Snow, and Candy Canes) and Walpurgisnacht. She also danced corps de ballet roles in Alan Hineline’s productions of Giselle and Swan Lake, as well as works choreographed by Melinda Howe. Additional influential mentors include Francis Veyette, Lauren Fadeley Veyette, Tamara Howe, Mara Klenda, and Gigi Bohach.
Emery graduated from Dickinson College in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts and earned a Ballet Certificate from Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. She also holds a Teacher’s Certification from CPYB, a Level 1 Certification in Progressive Ballet Technique, and served as a Ballet in the City Steward for many years.
Throughout her training, she attended summer intensives at Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, CPYB, and Ballet Theatre of Maryland. Emery joined Ballet Theatre of Maryland as a Trainee in 2024 and was promoted to Apprentice in 2025.
