Diego Sosa

Diego Sosa, a native of Asunción, Paraguay, began his ballet training in his hometown before earning a scholarship to the Washington School of Ballet. His artistic development was further enriched through training in the United States, Brazil, Italy, Spain, and France.

Diego began his professional career with the Municipal Ballet of Asunción before spending more than a decade with Ballet de la Universidad del Norte, where he performed leading roles in Carmen, Don Quixote, Giselle, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker, among many other classical productions.

In 2015, Diego joined Ballet Theatre of Maryland and was promoted to Principal dancer the following season. His repertoire with the company includes the Bluebird in Sleeping Beauty, the White Knight in Alice in Wonderland, King Lot in Excalibur, the Nutcracker Prince in The Nutcracker, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Aladdin in Dianna Cuatto's Aladdin, Prince Ivan in The Firebird, and numerous other principal roles.

Beyond performing, Diego is an accomplished teacher and choreographer. As a resident guest artist with the Kintz-Mejia Academy of Ballet, he has performed leading roles in both classical and contemporary works. From 2019 to 2023, he was also a member of Moveius Contemporary Ballet, where he collaborated on a wide range of new creations. He currently serves on the faculty of The Falls Church School of Ballet and regularly teaches master classes, partnering, men's technique, and coaching throughout the Washington, D.C. area.

In 2026, Ballet Theatre of Maryland premiered Diego's original ballet, The Wings of the Hummingbird (Las Alas del Mainumby), featuring an original score by Paraguayan composer Edgar Torres. Inspired by the culture and natural beauty of Paraguay, the work marked his mainstage choreographic debut with the company and reflects his commitment to creating original ballet repertoire rooted in his heritage.

Today, Diego continues to perform as a Principal dancer with Ballet Theatre of Maryland while pursuing an active career as a teacher, guest artist, and choreographer. Through his performances, choreography, and dedication to dance education, he strives to inspire audiences and the next generation of artists.
