Sarah Gilliam began her training in Roanoke, Virginia under Terri Post and Pedro Szalay. In 2007 she was accepted to attend Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts where she continued her training until she graduated in 2010. During her time at Nutmeg, Sarah spent her summers training with Virginia School of the Arts, Richmond Ballet, and Orlando Ballet. Sarah first joined Ballet Theatre of Maryland in 2010 as an Apprentice, was promoted to Demi-Soloist in 2012, to Soloist in August 2016, and Principal in January 2017. Since joining BTM Sarah has danced in numerous featured roles including Katrina VanTassel in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Lady of the Lake in Excalibur, Melinda in Beauty and the Beast, Prayer in Coppelia, Lady Legia in Masterpieces of Edgar Allen Poe, The Fall Fairy in Cinderella, and Dew Drop, Lead Arabian, Lead Chinese and Gypsy Doll in The Nutcracker. She was chosen to dance soloist roles for ballets by guest choreographers Meagan Strukel and Heidi Erickson and has performed as a soloist in many neo classical and contemporary ballets by Artistic Director Dianna Cuatto’s including Italian Symphonette, Bolero, Intimate Encounters, Tango Dramtico, Chakara, and Odyssey.
