Joshua Burnham started his ballet training at Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre under Robert Kelly and Diane Cypher. He also trained in Washington State at Mid Columbia Ballet under Debra Rogo. Mr. Burnham received full scholarships to summer programs at Pacific Northwest Ballet, American Ballet Theater, New York, and San Francisco Ballet School. He performed for six years in Regional Dance America’s Festivals with Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre and Mid Columbia Ballet. Mr. Burnham became a Trainee in 2004 with San Francisco Ballet, and performed in Val Caniparoli’s Street Songs, Helgi Tomasson’s Meiston’s Mozart and Balanchine’s Stars and Stripes. In 2006, Mr. Burnham joined Cincinnati Ballet as an apprentice and was double promoted to Corps de Ballet in 2007. With Cincinnati Ballet, Mr. Burnham performed leads in The Nutcracker, Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet, and Aladdin in a Thousand and One Nights. He has worked with choreographers Jorma Elo, Val Caniparoli, and Twyla Tharp. Mr. Burnham is very excited to begin his second season with Ballet Theatre of Maryland.

Kathryn Carlson is originally from Northern Virginia where she trained under the direction of Alzine Cuppett. She continued her training at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, where she also performed as a guest artist in Septime Webre’s Swan Lake with the Dayton Ballet. Kathryn joined Ballet Theatre of Maryland in 2003 as an apprentice dancer and was promoted to company member in 2004. She has had the honor of performing the roles of Katrina in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Guinevere in Excalibur, Snow Queen and Clara in The Nutcracker and the title role in Cinderella. Kathryn is excited to begin her ninth season with Ballet Theatre of Maryland.

Meagan Helman - Ballet Mistress is originally from Wilmington, Delaware. She began her training at the Delaware Dance Company and continued her studies with Daniel Catanach of Urban Ballet Theatre and The Atlanta Ballet. In 2004, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Goucher College in Baltimore, while there she also spent time abroad at Middlesex University in London, England. Meagan joined Ballet Theatre of Maryland as an apprentice and was promoted to a company member in 2006. Since then she has danced roles including Jo in Little Women, The Dew Drop Fairy and Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, Swanhilda in Coppelia, and Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

Nicole Kelsch is originally from Dallas, PA where she trained with Peter and Kristin Degnan at Ballet Northeast. She graduated with a BA in Ballet from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduation, she danced professionally with Columbia City Ballet, Atlanta Festival Ballet and Connecticut Ballet. This is Nicole’s sixth season with Ballet Theatre of Maryland where she has been featured as Clara in The Nutcracker, the Spring and Summer Fairies in Cinderella and Madame Marie Drummond in Pirates of the Chesapeake.

William Smith started his ballet training at the age of 11 under Delia Foley (ARAD) in the Royal Ballet Syllabus, he also trained under Madeline Canterella Culpo at Albany Berkshire Ballet. Mr. Smith has received full scholarships to summer programs at Columbia City Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, and Kansas City Ballet. In 2005 Mr. Smith attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City on a merit and talent scholarship where he performed Balanchine's Serenade , Philip Jerry's Our Town with UMKC and Ib Anderson's Romeo and Juliet with Kansas City Ballet under William Whitner. In 2009 Mr. Smith graduated with a B.F.A in Dance and joined Montgomery Ballet as an apprentice under Elie Lazar. In 2010 he became an apprentice with Richmond Ballet and danced in Salvatore Aiello's Clowns and Others and the Pas de Trois from Malcolm Burn's Sleeping Beauty. Will would like to dedicate this season in memory of his Grandfather, "For without him I wouldn't be living the dream." This is Will's first season with the company.

Alden Taylor was born and raised in Enfield, New Hampshire and started ballet when he was three years old. Alden's extensive training began when he was eight under the direction of Madame Stien in Quechee, Vermont. For his high school years, he trained at Bossov Ballet Theater under Andrei Bossov and Natalya Getman. Alden has perfomed such roles as Mordrid in Cuatto’s Excalibur and Russian in The Nutcrackeras well as many other supporting roles at Ballet Theatre of Maryland. This is his fourth season at BTM.

Calder Taylor was born and raised in a small town in New Hampshire. He began to pursue his dance career at the age of eleven. He attended Main Central Institute, which has an intensive high school ballet program, Bossov Ballet Theatre. After graduating, Calder became a company member at Ballet Theatre of Maryland. He has performed roles including as Mr. Brooks in Little Women, Rothbart and Siegfried in Swan Lake, Arthur and Mordred in Excalibur, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, Ichabod and Brom Bones in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Dr. Coppelius in Coppelia, the Prince in Cinderella, the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, Le Fontaine in Carmen,the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, Major General Robert Ross in Star Spanged Sketches, and the Snow Prince, Russian, Spanish, Merlitons and Arabian in The Nutcracker. This is Calder’s seventh season with the company.

Brian Walker is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Cincinnati’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts in 2001, while there he had an opportunity to tour Gifu, Japan and Los Angeles, California. In 2006, Brian graduated from Mercyhurst College with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a concentration in teaching and choreography. While there, he performed in Bolero, Carmen, Pas de Trois, La Ventana, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, and the lead role of James in Bournonville’s La Sylphide. Since joining Ballet Theatre of Maryland in 2006, Brian has enjoyed playing such characters as Ichabod from Sleepy Hollow, Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet, Franz in Coppelia, the title role in The Nutcracker, and Siegfried in Swan Lake. He is now in his sixth season with the company.

Valerie Walker began her training in her hometown of Marquette, MI. She danced at Interlochen Arts Academy for her last two years of high school, and attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA where she received a B.A. in Dance and Global Business. After Graduating in 2005, Valerie spent a year teaching dance at Centre Stage School of Dance in Waterford, Ireland. Valerie moved to Annapolis in 2006 and is now in her sixth season with Ballet Theatre of Maryland. She most has enjoyed dancing lead roles in Annapolis Anthologies, Cinderella, The Nutcracker, Sapphire Romance, Romeo and Juliet, and Alice in Wonderland. Valerie is looking forward to an eventful season.

Erica Wong was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she trained under John Landovsky at the Hawaii State Ballet since the age of five. Some of her favorite roles with the school include Flower lead from The Nutcracker, Gulnare from Le Corsaire, Diane from Esmeralda, and Kitri from Don Quixote. In March 2010, she received the first place prize at the American Ballet Competition held in Austin, Texas. Her favorite roles with Ballet Theatre of Maryland include Clara and Dew Drop Fairy from The Nutcracker, Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, and Rowena from Ligeia. This is Erica's second season with Ballet Theatre of Maryland.
